Moroccan Jews constitute an ancient community. Before the founding of Israel in 1948, there were about 250,000 Jews in the country, but fewer than 7,000 or so remain.

I read about moroccan jews settling in the amazon region of brazil. Apparently they played an important role during the rubber hausse in Manaus in the early 1900's. They became jungle jews i guess http://www.sephardicgen.com/amazon.htm

The Cape Verde Jewish Heritage Project, Inc. is mainly concerned with the second wave of Jewish immigration that occurred for primarily economic reasons in the late 1800's from Morocco and Gibraltar. We know from the Hebrew and Portuguese etchings on the tombstones in the small Jewish cemeteries which dot several islands that the majority came from the Moroccan cities of Tangier, Rabat, and Mogador (now Essaouira) bearing distinctive Sephardic names such as Cohen, Levy, Benoliel, Benrós, Wahnon, Benathar, Benchimol, Brigham, Auday, Anahory, Pinto, Maman and Seruya.

Moroccan jews formed a second wave of sephardic jew migration, the first one coming directly from portugal and spain during early colonization of the islands.

It definitly would be, its just hard considering the lack of Jews living there nowadays. MTdna results aren't as easy to distinguish between such Y-dna results, in terms of the areas in which it appears to abound most. Otherwise, '

We also analyzed a sample of 98 Turks (Tur) and 34 unrelated males from the Lemba (Lem), a Bantu (Venda)-speaking population from southern Africa who claim Jewish paternal ancestry (24).

Apparently, Jews in North Africa were still able back then to know which families remained more or less of Spanish stock and which families were of old Berber autochtonous stock. Surnames are a hint undoubtedly : people named Toledano are forcibly descendants of Jews expelled from Spain. About 20.000 Spanish Jews would have been to Morocco.

Jews were invited to come back to Spain in the 1930s.
