Indeed, they are a very fine featured, comely and good looking people. Rajput women are also quite beautiful, and the way they carry themselves as in the dignity and elegance is what makes them all the more admirable.

This might interest the women on the forums-

Nakuul Mehta, Prince of Udaipur who is said to hail from the Chauhan clan of Rajputs, and is according to some, also the direct descendant of the historical king, Prithviraj Chauhan (not quite sure as to whether such claims hold any water, but regardless).

Even the lighter pigmented individiduals have a distinctive look to them which differentiates them from European Mediterranid types; they're still fully Caucasoid nonetheless. Mehta reminds me of Hrithik Roshan, albeit less robust.

Great posts like always, Vasishta.

Rajputs in general are relatively light skinned, though. But most of Rajasthan is a desert, so obviously we would expect some amount of increase in pigmentation.

Indeed, but based on my experience, some deviating variants could pass as European Europids, and not all have the so called stereotypically European pigmentation markers such as blue colored eyes.

I attribute that distinctive look genetic isolation and selective pressures. This is not all that surprising, considering that old Indian society was mostly endogamous in nature, but of course a little bit of inter-caste mixing may have broadened the gene pool, if you may call it that, here and there along the line, but no doubt in the grander scheme of things, the upper castes would have kept that hush-hush!

I don't think there is any average color as far as Rajputs are concerned, considering skin tone is a rather plastic and fraudulent measure of race, and also that much of Rajasthan is a desert.

Skin pigmentation is caused by the presence of pigments in the epidermis, produced by the action of multiple hereditary factors for the protection of the underlying tissue against the ultra-violet rays of the sun. Also, every race is not uniform in it's pigmentation and other qualitative characteristics.

Which is why we see a huge variation in ever macro race as far as skin tone is concerned. The genes that produce pigments act in co-operation with environmental conditions and some degree of alteration in their expression.

Thus, in a hypothetical situation of extreme heat, the genes producing dark pigments probably were more stimulated than those producing lighter tints. So all in all, Rajputs vary from very white skinned to a dark brown skin tone, having ruddy under tones. Typically however, Rajputs range from light brown to a warm-tan sort of shade of brown (as you can see in the opening post).
